Colourful beginnings...

The last post was about people, and this one is about projects. Or, rather, the beginnings of projects. What do we have here? Ines' crocheted, wavy border, the first few flags of our 5th anniversary bunting (also by Ines) and two green pompoms belonging to Barbara. Now what might the latter be? Why not click on the link and find out: http://craftoutofgrey.blogspot.be/2013/12/x-balls-tree.html

Congratulations!!!!!

Hi everyone! It's feels like a long time since I wrote a post, and even longer since I was at the brei club, but it's great to be back behind the Blogger dashboard. The meeting in the Villa Elise on Sunday was lovely and I've got loads of great photos to share with you. But before I do, I'll let you into a little secret... it's not just Breien in Oostende with something to celebrate. You've no doubt heard that it's our 5th birthday in February. Well, there are two people in the club who've been together for a lot longer: Jan and Marie Therese have been married for 17 years this month! Isn't that wonderful? Three cheers to them! And what better way to mark the occasion than to post photos of Jan's marvellous entre lac... And before I sign off, let me add that I've always thought that the knitting club is about people as much as it is projects. Which is why it's a joy to celebrate Jan and Marie Therese's happiness. But there's someone else who also deserves a mention, and that's Barbara. Here's to you Barbara for all you've done, will continue to do and, above all, for picking up the pieces and keeping the blog and our Facebook page up do date. Thank you! But I know how much you all love projects and there are some fun photos saved for the next post... see you back here soon!

Enough grey!

Entrelac and Silk

Take a look at Barbara's new shawl! Aren't the colours lovely? And not only that, but the pattern is great. I can't wait to see this off the needles!

Back to school, part 2 ...

Carine

Rozemie

... with Rozemie's safety hat. This is a GREAT, quick, one ball project. This hat not only looks fantastic but it's knitted in a chunky yarn with a light reflecting thread woven into it. Wear this when coming home from work or school on a dark evening, or when cycling at night, and the light will bounce off - you'll be both warm and visible. You can get the wool in loads of colours at Rebecca's shop: Stoffenhuys Paulette on the Torhoutsesteenweg (see resources page). The pattern for the hat is free with the wool. Don't you think these would make brilliant presents?

Back to school...

... with Noro! This summer, I became totally obsessed with Noro yarns. After admiring them from afar for more years than I care to remember, I was thrilled to find them in my local branch of John Lewis when back in the UK. The moment had arrived - I would start knitting with Noro. And this is just one of the projects I finished during those summer months. A new hat and scarf for Marius which, luckily, he loves! Rebecca has a GREAT selection of Noro yarns in Stoffenhuys Paulette. I know where I'll be able to get my next fix...

Weekend inspiration

In a previous post, I described Barbara as the 'queen of critters' - and this is why! With the help of Ravelry, where she always posts pictures of her completed projects, she was able to take screen shots that show all her creations, all at once. What an amazing sight! Be inspired! Which is your favourite?

PS. Don't forget you can click on the photos to enlarge them.

A thing of beauty...

... is a joy forever.

Herewith a photograph of Barbara's handmade stitch-markers. Aren't they gorgeous? They really would be a joy to use, over and over again. Sold to Willemijn via Ravelry for a good cause: the 12-12 charity. Lucky Willemijn!!!

A week ago today...

How time flies! A week ago today, on a glorious sunny day, we had a full house in Oostende! At 11.00, we had three hardcore knitters around the table (Jan, Barbara and me) and by 15.00 we had a crowd of fifteen. There were some great projects on the go, one of which was Jan's amazing scarf - the perfect combination of colour and texture. Click on the pics for larger photos and keep watching the blog, there are great posts to come!

Programma 2013-2014

Nog even doorbijten

'Even doorbijten'... was the advice given to Marian during the creation of her beautiful lace shawl in Kid Silk Haze. With hundreds and hundreds of stitches on the needles and having never knitted lace before she kept her cool. But, she'll be the first to admit, she shed blood, sweat and tears over this design. Ines helped with the difficult instructions. The shawl was pulled back, redone and pulled back again until, finally, it dropped off the needles and onto our table in the Droge Coo. Congratulations Marian and, when the going gets tough, never forget: EVEN DOORBIJTEN!!!!!
(Click for bigger pictures and sorry not to have a photo of the whole shawl...)

Not just bees, but dragons too...

From beautiful bees to a darling dragon. I'm delighted to reveal Barbara's latest creation... this lovely little creature was knitted in one piece on double pointed pins - it was amazing to see his evolution this summer. Isn't he lovely? Barbara is our reigning queen of knitted and felted critters and she enjoyed passing on tips and advice for knitted bunnies to Jacqueline on Sunday. We've seen some wonderful creations of Barabara's over the years and it's always a delight to view her latest pride and joy. Click on the photos for more detail.

Bees....

Ladies and gentlemen! You are too talented! I was absolutely blown away by the amazing things that everyone has finished, was in the process of making or dreaming of starting... We were delighted to welcome Marie Paule of Knit Flanders, our 'sister' brei-club in Ghent. See: http://knitflanders-breiclub.blogspot.be/  Marie Paule has just finished the amazing 'bee stole' in yellow. We swooned, we sighed, we all took photos... this stole has the most amazing details that range from bee hives, to honeycomb and tiny little bees themselves (not to mention the exquisite beading). I couldn't resist asking: how long did it take? A good six months replied the wonder-knitter. Marie Paule, we salute you! Thanks for coming and, above all, for the inspiration. But this is only the tip of the iceberg - I'll be posting photos all this week of some of the other fabulous things you've been making. Watch this space! (as ever, click on the photos to enlarge - it's worth it)
